THEMES: DragThing Updates. Adds Leopard Support.
|
From the shores of Scotland comes word that James Thomson has updates the super-dock app: DragThing! Version 5.9 sports over two dozen changes; my favorites are support for Mac OS X 10.5, and dock-icon reflections.
No wait, maybe my favorite option is that I can choose from 22 dock themes or create my own.
No wait, my really favorite new option is... well, you get the idea. Go to the site and download DragThing. It's been in development for 10 years and has tons of features Apple will probably steal any-day-now.

THEMES: Cube Theme: Like Black, it goes with anything.
|
I have this shirt. It's kinda orange. I like it a lot, but it doesn't go with any of my shorts (except my blue denim jean shorts). No word in the English language rhymes with Orange, so I like to think of it as the acid test for an Appearance Theme: Does it work with orange?
Cube does Orange. It's a new theme by Hirogen and while it's very white, it's not boring. The little accents keep it interesting. Checkout the Ginormous Preview in our Download Section and then try to find a color that doesn' t work with Cube. Go ahead, I dare ya!

THEMES: End of the Road for Liger?
|
In a recent blog post, Spiderlama announced he is stopping work on the Appearance Theme, Liger. In case you've been living on a deserted island, Liger is the Shapeshifter Theme that mimics the look of Apple's next OS release code-named Leopard. Spiderlama said:
"I’m out. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to work on this any more.
It sucks but I’ll get over it. But it’s OK, because I am willing to
tell you my secret ideas on how to solve this cookie."
In the remainder of the post he outlines what steps need to be taken to bring the theme to the next level. I hope someone picks the the project up, but I suspect Spiderlama left some pretty big shoes to fill.

THEMES: New Theme Artist releases TruBlue
|
There's a new Theme artist on the block named Doc and you can download his TruBlue from the archive. It's a bright blue theme complete with an icon set and desktop picture and is avalable as a DLTA for Themechanger, and GuiKit for Shapeshifter. If you use the DLTA, you'll enjoy the benefit of a themed Boot Screen, Login Screen and more.
This theme is optimized for Mac OS X 10.3, but it looks great in 10.4 too, which leads me to my next point...
Doc is a young guy and when you're young, money is always tight. We need to pull together and help Doc pickup a copy of Tiger so his themes can be updated, and if you're extra generous he'll have a little cash left over to buy Leopard when it's released in a few monthes.
The pool of theme authors seems to be continually shrinking. If we all want to enjoy the ability to change the look of our Macs we need to support the artists who pour so much of their time into themeing. It would be great to see at least a dozen of us old-timers step up and click the PayPal Donation Button for Doc. Once he has Tiger, he'll update all his themes (more will be posted later this week). Thanks gang!

THEMES: Theme Updated
|
Stefanie Koerner at monochrom, has updated her pxlprt2.4 theme to fix some glitches with the new iTunes 7.2. She says something that I've recently heard from a lot of theme authors,
"Really, I am not sure if I want to continue theming, if skins need so many images and so many updates … neverending story. Well, let's wait and see what Leopard looks like."
Hopefully, the unified window theme of Leopard will make Themeing easier, ending the internal Apple battle between Aqua and Brushed Metal.

THEMES: Amazing Transparent Theme
|
Leland Scott from Musings from Mars, has created an entirely transparent theme, Crystal Clear. In this article, he describes what drove him to experiment over the years in extreme transparency. I ran this theme for a few hours and it's beautiful, but takes some getting use to. I think the less cluttered you keep the desktop, the more you'll enjoy the theme (I'm way too cluttered!).
If this can be ported to Leopard, I think it could really shine when combined with Spaces, where you may have a single application per Space.
