FONTS: Millesime font at Chank
|
Inspired by French Old Style lettering, Millesime and surrounded by little splatters. looks a if too much ink was applied to the rollers. The edges are soft with very small splatters. Created by Gregory Jacobson, you can download it at Chank. (Last week I watched the documentary, Helvetica, and now have a new appreciation for fonts!)

A nice collection of font for your Mac can be found at Font River. What I like best is that the fonts are organized by style, not alphabetically. Need a font for Christmas? No problem. Just navigate there via the menus.

FONTS: Font Freak Releases MichaelMas, I mean Mac.
|
This is a little embarrassing. Font Freak just relased a new font called, Michaelmas, but I believe it's suppose to be MichaelMac in honor of this site. The owner of the site won't return my calls and he drives right by when I call to him from outside the fenced-in parking lot, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before we get it all straightened out.
In the meantime, enjoy Michaelmas, and if your name is Daisy, they have a new font for you too!

FONTS: dafont Adds Two New Free Fonts

Frakturika and Hawaii Killer are two new free fonts posted at dafont. For me, Frakturika evokes horror and Halloween, and I love the way capital letters wrap around in Hawaii Killer, but I wish it wasn't so distressed.

FONTS: da-hey! New font at dafont!
|
I must admit that when I look at this font, Bleeding Cowboy, it doesn't evoke images of the Wild West. I'd expect to see it more in a poster for a book by Dan Brown or Ann Rice, but that's why I just run a website and don't create fonts!
Head over to dafont and grab Bleeding Cowboy and view the other new additions!

FONTS: Font Freak Updates
|
Font Freak recently added Daisy to its large collection of free/shareware fonts. A nice feature of this site is the ability to search for fonts based on keywords rather than having to scroll through page after page of images. For example, a search of distressed returns 41 fonts with previews.

FONTS: Ballers Delight Font at Chank
|
Ballers Delight is a nice looking distressed font, but what makes the download so interesting is that it comes with over 65 images of the font photographed as jewelery. My preview below doesn't do it justice. Visit the site for a better look.
The images remind me the type of folk art you would see in a House of Blues restaurant. Between mixing the font and images, you could create some very nice layouts!

FONTS: Custom Vinyl Lettering (An excuse to show-off my Cornhole Game)
|
About four years ago in the Chicagoland area, Cornhole (or Baggo) games started appearing at parks and picnics all over town. Never heard of cornhole? Imagine horseshoes with bags of seed rather than iron projectiles (it's much safer when alcohol is involved). When tailgating before a game, you could be certain to hear the sound of one pound cotton bags of corn bouncing off the plywood tops.
It was at this time that the wife and kiddies bought me a custom made White Sox version of the game for my birthday. Over the years, the bags have gotten a little grimy and the boxes are warped and chipped. I downloaded official blueprints and was determined to make my own replacement game.
Here are the materials I used: 4x8 sheet of quality plywood ($25), two quarts of extireor paint and three cans of spray paint ($30), a set of 8 bags in two colors ($40), and finally, custom vinyl lettering ($13). Total cost: $108.00.
My son and I had the boxes built and primered in 3 hours, then started the longer process of masking and painting the Coyle Family Crest. The final piece, which really brought the project to the next level, was the vinyl lettering. Sign Specialists has this great form on their website that lets you upload your own font choice, so you can tell exactly what your lettering will look like. I highly recommend them.
A larger image of the completed Cornhole set is in the Gallery.

FONTS: Two New Free Fonts at Chank
|
Kegger Collegiate is a quintessential athletic font. Use it to announce your next dorm party. Flubber reminds me of something you would see on Saturday morning "School House Rock" (does anyone remember this?). It's childlike and sorta hippie.
Visit Chank for more free fonts and checkout the others listed at reasonable prices.
