MAKEOVERS: Three New Snapshots Posted
|
Roosta sent a snapshot of his desktop featuring a windmill-farm desktop and a Quicklook movie preview of the best damn sci-fi show ever, Battlestar Galactica. iTunes is playing "Voice Farm", a band he recommends.
i also posted two snapshots of my Linux desktop. In the first, Songbird is playing tunes. This app is a clone of iTunes, and the beauty is not just skin deep. Songbird can import your iTunes library, including song ratings, so all my hours of tweaking didn't go to waste!
The second shows-off Compiz-Fusion, a window manager with tons of eye-candy. Here is a video of it in action. Maybe someday we'll have the option to add some of these features to Mac OS X.

MAKEOVERS: 3D Dock: Once Hated Now Loved?
|
All during the testing phase and all the first reviews commented on how ugly the new 3D is in Leopard, but now it seems old 3D is the life of the party!
A couple of sites are sporting dozens of makeover kits to transform the dock to a rainbow, coffee table, or circuit board! Yell At Ducks has a nice collection made by owner, Zak Frazier. He also posted a tutorial on How to make Custom Docks for Leopard.
LeopardDocks is a new site listing over 70 makeovers for the dock. They also host an AppleScript that makes installation drag-n-drop easy.
Want something even easier? Use DockColor to simply change the color of your dock.

|
They're soooo cute, who cares if these little creatures are all bones! Mindy Weaver's newest icon set is titled, Skelanimals; eight cuddly little animals for your Halloween desktop.
Did I mention that they're all dead?
David Lanham from The Iconfactory just released a new set of 16 icons titled, Spooky Stickers, an assortment of spooky Halloween themed stickers.
Saho Icon offers 13 Halloween icons in this set. There are 5 folder styles, 5 documents and a handful of pumpkins.
The Halloween set of icons from Zuesbox contains 11 pumpkin smillies and 7 graphical halloweeb.
DesignMood has a whopping 28 icons in his set of Pacman-ish Spooky Icons.
To compliment their new desktop, Hybrid Works has released a set of 12 icons for your Halloween desktop. Most are Jack-o-lanterns, but there are a couple of other goodies includes.
My old friend, Ilona, has a great collection of four delicate ghostly desktops at her site, Ilicon.
While you're there visit the rest of Ilicon for more icons and desktops.
A lot of odd Qee desktops are at Cloud13 Design which would look great as Halloween desktops, but my favorites are from the Killer Girls series. She looks so cute with a bloddy ax in her hand.
Warrior Poet created 10 Halloween Desktops of ghosts and jack-o-lanterns in various stages of joy and pain. The errie green glow in many of these look great.
TwisterMC posted 9 simple Halloween desktops, many of which use spooky fonts from dafont. Check them out if your-thing is simple solid designs.
Hot off the press from the Iconfactory is Still Thirsty by Gedeon Maheux who says, " Even the undead party! Raise a glass and join the cheer with this playful Halloween desktop picture"
Blue Sky Heart released Demon for your Halloween Desktop. He doesn't look too friendly, so seriously, only true Warlocks should use this desktop.
At Vlad Studio is a new release for Halloween! In Trick or Treat, five little ghosts visit the waning moon looking for candy. It comes in two color vritions: Red and Blue.
The laborers at the Iconfactory have produced three new desktops: Two based on Batman, one for Halloween, and all of them outstanding!
For Halloween, Gedeon Maheux created The Legend of Boggy Creek inspired by the campy 70's docu-drama.
For the two Batman desktops, Mindy Weaver created Blight, an arch rival of the Caped Crusader, and Gedeon followed up with Batman, the silhouette of our hero against a blood red moon. (IMHO, the Batman desktops are great for Halloween too!)
Four ghosts escape the Haunted Hotel in this Halloween Desktop from Hybid Works. It's available is six scary sizes.
Here are three Yahoo Widgets for your desktop this Spooky Season. Halloween Countdown Timer developed by Josh Steenmeyer and
HalloweenMart to countdown to our favorite holiday of the year.
Halloween Costume Generator is just in time for Halloween. Click the 'generate' button to create a random costume idea.
Don't forget Jack, q Jack-O-Lantern whose eyes follow the pointer around the screen.
Darken your Mac with one of these themes for Halloween. You'll need Shapeshifter from Unsanity to install them.

MAKEOVERS: Front Row Makeover
|
A designer named bodysoulspirit created a cool set of replacement images for Apple's Front Row application that give it an iPhone look.
Included in the download are drag-and-drop instructions, but they didn't work for me, so on the Download page I included a couple Terminal commands to accomplish the same thing. You need to log out and back in to see the results.
